We are a sales agent group with a mission to provide your business with added-value products, to assure superior nutrition, and provide you with technical assistance and information concerning product application. You will receive efficient sales support and friendly customer service.
Partnership Established
In August, 1972, Ray Van Poucke joined Gladwin and the Company operated under a partnership agreement covering the period August 1, 1972 through July 31, 1976. Several new products lines were introduced to the trade area during this time.
Incorporation
Mr. Read retired in 1976 and the business was moved to Elgin, Illinois. The Company was incorporated as Van Agri, Inc., d.b.a. the Gladwin A. Read Company.
The 70’s, 80’s and 90’s
Rapid growth years ensued and several new people joined the firm during this period. Ray served as President of the Company from 1976 to 1988 when William “Bill” M. Crocket became President. Bill joined the firm in 1978 following 20 years with CPC International. Robert “Bob” Baltzell joined the firm in 1995 as Vice President bringing with him 26 years experience in the Feed Industry. In 1997, Bob became President and owner of the Gladwin A. Read Company.
2000 to Today
Bob Baltzell remained President of GARCO until July 2011, when his son, Beau, acquired the business. Beau Baltzell is the President and owner of the Gladwin A. Read Company.

President
Beau joined GARCO in April 2011 and is the President along with servicing Key Accounts. Beau started working at Gladwin A. Read in a sales territory from 1998 to 2003. He then joined Baltzell Agri-Products trace mineral production facility until the business was sold to Prince Agri in 2009. Beau stayed at Prince Agri for two years to assist with the transition and rejoined GARCO in 2011. Beau is officed at GARCO headquarters in Omaha, NE.
Beau graduated from Purdue University with a B.S. in Animal Science. Beau and his wife, Amy, have three children, Reese, Mia and Griffin.

Bunny Doyle
Sales
Bunny joined GARCO in Sept. 2019 and brings to us 28 years of Sales experience. She has held sales responsibilities working in the Poultry, Swine, Dairy, and Mineral Nutrition fields.
Prior to joining GARCO, Bunny worked at Phibro for 18 years with the past 13 years being responsible for Sales Management as the Central Regional Director of Nutrition Specialties for Phibro’s Dairy Business.
Bunny also has experience with monogastric sales having worked for Kemin, Elanco and Abbot Laboratories.
Bunny earned a BS in Poultry Science from Texas A & M. Bunny and her husband Tim reside in Storm Lake, IA.

Derick Roos, PAS
Sales
Derick graduated with a BA in Agribusiness from Dordt College in 1987. Following graduation, he moved to WA State where he worked for Ferndale Grain in Dairy nutrition.
Derick joined Cargill Nutrena Feed Division in 1990 as a territory manager with direct sales to dairies in the Pacific Northwest. After moving to Iowa in 1998, he again worked for Cargill developing dairy business along the I-29 corridor and worked. Derick joined NPC in 2008, working with beef feedlots and dairies in IA, MN, SD, ND and NE. Derick is certIfied in Dairy Cattle with ARPAS.
He joined the GARCO sales team in January 2015 and lives in Sioux Center, IA with his wife, Arnola. They have 4 adult children–Danielle, Kyle, Kody (wife Paige) and Micah.

Chad Smith, PAS
Sales
Chad Smith joined GARCO October 2019. Prior to joining GARCO, Chad was the Regional Director Nutrition Specialties in the West Region for Phibro Animal Health with a sales focus on mineral nutrition and value-added nutritional specialty feed additive products.
Chad also was Southwest Account Manager for Trouw where he managed sales of specialty feed ingredients and premixes. He began his sales career as an Account Manager position at DSM/Roche selling vitamins and enzymes.
Chad has a proven background in sales, business development, marketing and channel management with a variety of corporate structures and business influencers. .
Chad received a BS Animal Science Production, Animal Sciences from Tarleton State University. Chad and his wife, Karissa, have two children.

Dr. Jim Edwards, PAS
Technical Nutrition Consultant
Jim joined GARCO in 1997 and worked as a Technical Sales Agent for 21 years through the end of 2018 when he retired.
Jim is continuing to actively provide Technical Consulting support for our principles and the GARCO team.
Jim graduated from Mississippi State with a BS in Dairy Production in 1973 and received his Ph.D in Ruminant Nutrition in 1979 from Kansas State. Jim and his wife Nancy reside in Wooster, Ohio.

Patti Cardoso, RAS
Marketing and Administrative Consultant
Patti has worked for GARCO for 30 years in a sales capacity servicing the states of West MI, IN, IL, East IA, and WI.
Patti retired June 2020, but is continuing to support GARCO as a Marketing and Administrative Consultant.
Patti has a Sales and Marketing Certificate and is ARPAS certified in Dairy Cattle.
Patti was active in AFIA throughout her ag career and was honored as AFIA Member of the Year in 2009.
Patti and her husband, Carlos, reside in Elgin, IL and have two children, Cristina and Bob and 6 grandchildren.

JoLene Pavelka
Customer Service
JoLene joined GARCO in 2018. Prior to joining GARCO, JoLene worked at USDA in an Administrative role and she also spent several years working for a global organization manufacturing testing equipment in a high-tech industry. JoLene’s strong background in problem-solving and logistical work comes from her years of experience in emergency response team roles.
JoLene is the primary Customer Service resource for order placement, transportation challenges, product literature or any other opportunities to help our customers accomplish business needs.
She has an MBA in Business Administration and has been involved in supporting administrative roles for the past 27 years of her career.
JoLene is married with 4 grown children and has two grandchildren.

Sherry Gilbert
Accounting
Sherry has been involved with GARCO Accounting since 1997 and has moved into the role of Accounting Manager and Customer Service back-up for JoLene Pavelka, Customer Service Manager.
Sherry graduated from Northwest Missouri State University in 1990 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting. Sherry also worked for Baltzell Agri-Products for over 20 years.
Sherry and husband Russ reside in Hamburg, IA along with their daughter, Ashley.
